Hutchies worked with Gold Coast Airport through an early contractor involvement (ECI) process to unlock additional terminal passenger capacity without interrupting airport operations.
This work, dubbed 'Project LIFT', allows Gold Coast Airport to meet passenger processing demands as a result of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and forecast travel expected in the terminal.
We worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to develop the concept design for the 'airport processing zone' (APZ) to unlock additional floor area to relieve queuing congestion and cross flows within the existing terminal. It also improves overall airline passenger handling performance, and optimises the existing departure lounge for both commercial benefit and passenger comfort.
Our solution was to design and construct a long and narrow airside processing zone building on the existing apron pavement spanning the entire length of the terminal building. Due to the busy nature of the airport, our approach included Hutchies Modular's innovative prefabricated offsite building techniques to minimise any disruption to airport operations using meticulous planning and coordination.
